So, I want to be able to have the music of some artists I follow and like on CD. My usual way of going about this is buying directly from them, or looking through stores and street markets to see if they have anything I'm interested in. It gets tricky when CDs are no longer in production, when the artists are from another continent and finding their stuff here is super tricky, or when they have the nerve to have never released anything on CD...
So, I bought ten blank CD-Rs and jewel cases, and I decided the UNDERTALE Soundtrack would be a good test run to see how easily I could do it.
The physical edition of the UNDERTALE Soundtrack comes in two CDs in a DVD sized box, so I had to adapt or recreate the official art by hand to fit in a jewel case, and have my disc be an MP3 CD, since the 90+ minute soundtrack with 101 tracks would not fit in one CD.
I fumbled my first attempt by labelling my tracks "01, 02, 03, etc" instead of "001, 002, 003, etc", so my CD player was playing the 100th and 101st tracks where the 11th and 12th tracks should be. No problem, lesson learned. I burn another disc, this one works perfectly.
The next hardest part was cutting the CD label I had had printed on A4 sticker paper, since the middle part was pretty tough to get right. Everything else was pretty easy. I made the slip cover, the back thing, and boom! Pretty good if I do say so myself.
I definitely want to do this for all four DELTARUNE chapters... Not sure what else to make, but the sky is the limit >:3 (i guess my wallet is also the limit lol)
I made my first bootleg CD!

This is awesome!!!
I think I want to try doing this at some point too
Only problem is I don't have any jewel cases, let alone reliable cd's >>

I suppose it depends on where you're from, but CD-Rs and jewel cases are pretty cheap! So much so that I only ever see them sold in bundles of 50 or 100.TeaInTheMorning wrote: Sun Aug 10, 2025 10:22 pm Only problem is I don't have any jewel cases, let alone reliable cd's >>
I bought a bundle of ten CD-Rs and ten jewel cases and all of that plus separate shipping for each cost me approximately $26k ARS (So, bit more than $20 USD).
I also got lucky since my PC is a ship-of-theseus'd machine from 2014, so it already has a DVD-RW drive, but I think external drives for those aren't very pricey either...

Based. I've done a similar move in my life where I am trying to get all the music that is special to me on CD so I can never lose it. Super fun project you've started!

Oh I remember Doing that, as a kid I used to only have a CD/Kaset Radio on my Bed side table, so the only way I listend to stuff was via CD or Kasets. So the thing I used to do was download my Music from the Internet and then Burn it on a Disc. creating my Mixtapes.

Sounds like a super fun little project! Super depressing how streaming and labels have killed music over the years, both from a consumer and an artist's perspective. Return to physical media! Huzzah!

WELL, as I understand, CD-Rs are not as long-lasting as regular CDs. The best way to *never* lose it is to download all of it and back it up. For me, it's more about looking through all the CDs I have and saying "sure, I'll listen to this today!", which comes more naturally to me than picking from a huge list on Spotify lol. And thank you ^^ always happy to see people passionate about physical media.CitricScion wrote: Mon Aug 11, 2025 2:36 am Based. It's why I try to buy music on Bandcamp or buy CDs directly from the artists (I say as someone who's only bought one album like that lmao). I love looking for music by thrifting, but from a "supporting the artist" perspective, I know they're not getting anything from that...Fireye wrote: Mon Aug 11, 2025 7:37 am Sounds like a super fun little project! YES!! I really wanna make mixtapes... the two I have in mind is just a bunch of ska songs that exemplify what I love about the genre, and a collection of all the Undertale and Deltarune tracks my partners and I cannot get our of our headsCrazyroostereye wrote: Mon Aug 11, 2025 7:32 am Oh I remember Doing that, as a kid I used to only have a CD/Kaset Radio on my Bed side table, so the only way I listend to stuff was via CD or Kasets.
