So various outlets say different things about this.

Fact is that this is being installed on Android 9+ devices with 2+GB of memory by the Google Play Services and is being classified as a system service.

I don't want to reiterate speculations by others what this really does on your phone. Depending on the sources it is either meant for scanning content and filtering/warning users; flagging illegal content; or providing the underlying "AI" models for various other tasks including the above.

So I checked and this is on my phone.

I'll be honest, I don't want to fuel conspiracy theories, but I also just don't trust a company that can't keep it's "don't be evil" mantra. If their intentions were good, why would they not announce this change in a more open way? Why didn't I get a notification.

I'll let the tech analysis be done by people more skilled and knowledgeable than me in that aspect, but I really REALLY don't like it
