New Pebble watches & general smartwatches
I'm not sure if you all have seen but since Google open sourced the Pebble OS earlier this year the original creator of the Pebble watch has been working on bringing them back. Personally I've found the Pebble to be the only "smart" watch that's really felt good, I think things like the Apple watch are way too obtrusive and I really like the always on e-ink. I have tried the sqfmi watchy which is nice cause it's basically just an ESP32 in a watch form factor which means it's totally independent (for the most part), but I've really missed the community around the Pebble and a lot of the apps and faces since mine stopped working. I've also found the watchy to be a little fragile without a screen cover, but it's really pleasant once you've loaded a good face on it through the Arduino IDE. Anyway, thoughts on the new Pebbles, old ones, or other smartwatches?

I'm waiting to see what they do with it to be honest ! But the idea sounds good. I don't understand why watches like the apple watch nowadays release and have to be charged every day. That's bonkers to me. My smartwatch is a Venue 3, basically a glorified vibrating alarm, I have to charge it every week (and a half) and I wouldn't want to charge it any more frequently.
An e-ink watch, or a watch like the pebble sounds VERY interesting, and after seeing a couple videos on it I think I'd like it, but to be frank, it's owned by Google and I just do not trust that company.

Well the Pebble is dead, so there is no real buying of them any more.Linkard wrote: Thu Mar 20, 2025 7:23 am An e-ink watch, or a watch like the pebble sounds VERY interesting, and after seeing a couple videos on it I think I'd like it, but to be frank, it's owned by Google and I just do not trust that company.
But with the Open Sourcing of the OS and the Fork of the rePebbel Project has done makes me vary happy, I really want to buy one, but also I can't justify spending 250€ on a 1st Generation Device, that hasn't been tested yet. But maybe in a few Months when it gets tested and reviews exist of it.
