I've been running on Ubuntu LTS for a few months now and I can't see myself going back. I do have a dual boot setup for the few games that just simply work better on Windows but the more time goes on the less I find myself booting to that drive.

It is definitely not perfect though and I do find myself running into crashes from time to time. I'd love to learn about Arch on a dedicated device like a laptop, but I couldn't see myself daily driving it anytime soon.

And for a bit of cheekiness: the final destination is transcending Linux altogether and switching to OpenBSD.

Debloat Windows 11 -> REALLY debloat Windows 11 -> Dual boot Linux Mint/Ubuntu & debloated Windows 11 -> Run only a distro like Linux Mint -> Arch btw -> waiting for Chromium to compile for a week (Gentoo) -> OpenBSD -> TempleOS

getting used to arch on a laptop is the way to go! I used manjaro for a while when I first started because arch intimidated me, but manjaro was pretty lackluster. Sitting down and going through all the steps to actually install arch was pretty cool and I have not switched since (although I have swapped my desktop manager quite a few times)

I'm excited for more folks to try Linux because the barrier to entry is getting lower and lower. I think it's at a point where a non-technical tech enthusiast could successfully install a distro and be good. Like the odds of that level of success are much higher.

Some other factors that are different today from Windows 8 EOL:
- There are many vendors that offer Linux preinstalled, from boutique vendors like System76 to large vendors like Lenovo
- Linux support goes further for folks who want to install Linux themselves - sometimes vendors may support systems that they don't offer preinstalled
- Steam Deck has made gaming on Linux the reality it is today, with more support on the way as other vendors sell SteamOS devices
- Bugs in the desktop experience are being hammered out every 6 months (especially in Fedora but I'm biased)
- Nvidia support is increasing through the Nouveau and Nova drivers for older and newer GPUs
- More and more big time creators are taking notice, seeing the appeal, and feeling the pain from the mainstream options - PewDiePie is the latest, but LTT has been looking longingly at Linux since there challenge and James Lee as well (don't know how much I'm missing)

I'm not saying it will be the Year of the Linux Desktop, but I do think it will be a good onramp for people looking at their laptop and wanting to maintain support.

Speaking off, many in the FOSS community are already organizing around this event to help people make the switch!

Its so awesome to see what linux has received in ports/support/etc.

I'm also a huge linux user. Only my main PC runs Windows 11 (for now)
I've settled with linuxmint now, as this is a distro that just works for me.

I've had EndeavourOS on both of my spare laptops, but i switched to mint since things didnt work right. My convertable laptop kept freezing when woken up from hibernation, and other issues.

I take an another laptop to my secondary work (Actually a daycare job) where we research gadgets/apps for care institution whitin our organization. It ran also EndeavourOS, but since its a rolling release, and i dont have time to constantly update it. It didnt work in the long term, so i switched and it works fine now (apart from some bluetooth issues, which could be the adapter itself).

i still love the arch project, but it doesnt work for me (long-term)

But back to Felix.
I didnt even expect that he installed linux, let alone arch, and him modifying every aspect of it.
I really like to see this. And also he build some gadgets using a raspberry PI, so awesome to see

Since this video got posted I have seen a pretty significant shift towards Linux, a lot more talking about switching or going and actually dual-booting, this and SteamOS, are really helping out FOSS, not to mention Germany and France are now about abandoning Microsoft Office and Windows for LibreSuite and Linux. I'm not a 'year of Linux' guy but its definitely been gaining a nice amount of traction lately.
