Re: Bullet Journaling & Fountain Pens

I tried bullet journaling years ago, but at the time it felt both too busy and not robust enough for my needs. I might try it again, though, since I'm in a completely different career/situation now.

I have a bad habit of buying fountain pens "as a treat." My current daily driver is a Lamy Safari ...

Re: What phone are you using?

I currently have a Sony Xperia 10iii running Sailfish OS. I considered switching to a dumbphone, but I travel enough and have weird enough dietary needs to be uncomfortable not having access to search in my pocket. This also allows me to change my tickets on the go if I need to (and I often do ...

Re: Favourite quirky "feature" in a book?

Not sure it's exactly what you mean, but for me it has to be The Book With No Pictures by B.J. Novak:

https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/316868/the-book-with-no-pictures-by-bj-novak/

It is, as advertised, a children's book that has no pictures. The humor is entirely in the delivery. It's my ...

The Cloud Firewall extension for Firefox is funny (but not)

I installed the Cloud Firewall extension for Firefox today. It allows you to block sites that come from Amazon, Apple, Cloudflare, Google, Facebook, and/or Microsoft. (you can toggle which in settings)

...It broke like half my bookmarks. Which is funny, but also not, since it indicates just ...

Re: What is your least favorite advertisement?

There's an ad I hear on the radio now and then for an app that offers "cash back" when you buy gas.

Every single time, I end up yelling at the radio, "And what are you getting out of it? Nobody just hands out free money to people running daily errands!" Whatever data this app harvests has to be ...

Just wanted to say thank you for this thread. I've been exploring Geminispace for all of two days and I'm already loving it.

I'm at //drmollytov.flounder.online if anyone wants to watch me break links in real time, haha

Re: Google Maps Alternatives?

MapQuest still exists and offers turn by turn navigation! It also has settings for walking, biking, or driving, and a lot of the same filters as Google Maps (avoid highways, avoid toll roads, etc).

I use MapQuest when I really need turn by turn navigation or estimated distances in an unfamiliar ...

Re: Backups

I have an external hard drive I back up my computer drives to once a month. It gets copied to a second external hard drive four times a year. That second drive lives at my parents' house. The first one lives in my fire safe.

I just don't have much in the way of files, so I don't find this ...

Re: 2-factor auth

A weird fun fact I discovered at work: Microsoft Authenticator will still allow me to log into my work account, even if the phone contains no SIM card, as long as the phone has access to wi-fi.

I have a Galaxy S8 that got softlocked (long story, kinda my fault), so I deleted everything off it ...

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hi, I'm Molly. I've spent the past month deleting all my Big Tech Company accounts and removing their products from my life (Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta, Microsoft, Automattic....all gone). I started doing it due to privacy and security concerns, but it's led me to the discovery that the weird ...
