Re: Tips you would give Linux newbies

I agree with zonk that emphasizing the package manager is helpful. You could say that instead of downloading apps from the developer's website, you get it from your computer's "app store."

Something else you could mention is that nowadays you can do almost everything you need without the command ...

Re: My garden

Wow, that's wild. I've only recently starting gardening. Half by necessity and half to see how far it goes. I hope to make it three years with any plant!

Re: The Internet Used to Be a Place

One idea that I am trying to take away is how to re implement that sense of place for the internet. I won't be able to put aside what I get from my phone, but I find that visiting this forum is one way I do that. I only check this on my personal computer, and I only use my personal computer in the ...

Re: Luanti (open source Minecraft)

I totally vibe with that, but I also like all of the neat things people have done with Minecraft. I love the latest versions of Minecraft, I love the older versions, I dig Hypixel and Wynncraft and the modded servers too. I was looking forward to Hytale as well before the unfortunate news of its ...

This video is a cool look at what the internet used to be like not just aesthetically, but culturally and in our real lives. I don't think these are new ideas to anyone here, but it's a really well done video essay. :)

Re: I blog about nerd stuff

This blog is super neat. Thanks for sharing!

It's a shame Obsidian didn't work out, but I can see how the mind map stuff can be overwhelming. I fully ignored that when I used it. Otherwise it was my favorite text editor. The only reason I moved off of it was because I wanted something web based so ...

Re: Luanti (open source Minecraft)

zonk awesome, my suspision was even more right than I realized. Thanks for your contributions!

Yeah, when I tried the regular Minetest Game I couldn't stick around for that long. A friend had us try MeseCraft I think but that was also too different for me to figure it out.

Now in my second pass ...

Re: The closing circle of privacy

I appreciate the sympathy. It's tough because, as you say, moving to Signal would benefit not only me, but the other person as well. But alas the opportunities aren't open today.

The reason that people do use WhatsApp but don't use Signal is because many of them already have WhatsApp installed ...
