Media Servers

Post by dandelion357 »

Hello,

I am interested in setting up a media server and am wondering if anyone here has and could share their experience with it. I'm deciding between plex and jellyfin but leaning more towards jellyfin.

Just to clarify I'm completely new to this kind of stuff and know basically nothing lol and any advice etc. would be appreciated :)

I would mainly be watching on my tv on a roku player. Plex and jellyfin both have apps on there.

Oh yeah Jellyfin is really cool and can highly Recommend. I don't have much Advice I can give straight out of my Head, but what you should be Careful is saving your Videos in fitting Codecs, so your Server doesn't have to do a lot of Transcoding. Like Checkout if your TV/ROKU supports a Codec and uses that. And be carefull on how many people use it at the same time, as your Server might not handle that.
I am Human, and everyone who says otherwise is lying.

I have been enjoying Jellyfin for many years. Plex is proprietary, so I never tried it.
