Re: Introduce yourself!
Hi! my username is Rocatex and i'm from texas. I'm a queer furry in college who was inspired by legos and the idea of D.I.Y. when I was little, and now I'm trying to apply those same concepts to the internet. Hopefully I can carve out my own little space of the internet and stop doomscrolling so much. It's very inspiring to see so many people here all joining lately tbh.
Best of luck

Re: Introduce yourself!
hello there! my name's sylvestre, i'm 25, non-binary, living with adhd and a whole bunch else, lover of old tech, animatronics/emototronics, and cute things! i'm at the very beginning of my tech detox journey. i have a samsung smartphone, but i try to stay on my old samsung tablet and laptop where i have more productive apps like duolingo, picross, and my journaling app. i'm doing this because i want to prove to myself that i can overcome my dependence on cheap dopamine, and i'm posting here for accountability.
i also have a spacehey if anyone 18+ would like to add me! it's nice to meet you all! <3

Hey everyone! My name is Mimi, I'm from Brazil.
This is my first proper time on a forum (not a thing from my time; by the age I was using a computer, Orkut and Facebook were already the norm so I missed a lot of the fun). I heard about here from @Linkard's video Let me help you escape the endless scroll. For a while I've been trying to get rid of exactly that through abandoning some social media, touching grass and more recently, avoiding algorithm recommendations.
I don't really know how to introduce myself so here are some things and topics I like: horror and surrealist movies, coffee WITH milk, linux and desktop customization (mandatory arch btw - I'm sorry, they have my family), nail care, weight lifting, minecraft, drawing, programming (minor scripting stuff), rotating/sparkling gifs, social problems, retro tech, studying and journaling.
By now, I may or may not be planning to create a personal website
Nice to meet y'all~

I'm Kolev. I dress Amish to keep people from assuming I use their bad technology. My phone is a Western Electric 2500 telephone connected to a Grandstream HT802 ATA, next to a Rolodex. My alarm clock is analog. My computer is a ThinkPad X200s running GNU Boot and GNU Guix System. I carry a fountain pen and notepad in my pocket instead of a mobile phone.
Current goals are to get a real camera, and to start paying cash for most things.

Re: Introduce yourself!
Hi, I'm Molly. I've spent the past month deleting all my Big Tech Company accounts and removing their products from my life (Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta, Microsoft, Automattic....all gone). I started doing it due to privacy and security concerns, but it's led me to the discovery that the weird, personal Web I remember from the 90s still exists. I'm so glad you're all here!
It's been a week since I closed my last social media account (Reddit) and I'm amazed how much happier I am already. And how much more I enjoy ordinary things.
My next big project is to flash a custom ROM to my phone to free it from Google. I still have a smartphone, but if the custom ROM experiment fails and bricks it, I don't think I'll cry too hard about switching to a dumb phone. For environmental reasons, though, I'm not changing phones till I need to.
Also, I ordered a print encyclopedia last week! Partly because I'm a big advocate of using them to teach students how to think about knowledge creation (I'm a school librarian), but mostly because I want to read it. Again. Fun fact: I read the entire 1966 Britannica the summers of 1993-1994. I didn't understand most of it, but I read it.
I blog at http://drmollytov.bearblog.dev. I'm also re-learning HTML and learning CSS, and I experiment with these at http://drmollytov.neocities.org.
Pleased to meet everyone!

yo
I've never opened up to anyone on the internet. That is, I have never had interactions with people outside my irl friends to discuss interests, personal experiences, etc. I've never posted on Twitter or Tumblr or reddit, I haven't been part of any online communities, even though I really wanted to, just because I didn't know how.
At least not without cringing at myself.
Due to some sad events lately, I've found myself searching for connection, for a sense of belonging. I started learning about the indie web and how people use it to share hobbies and generally have real, valuable interactions. I have always kept my interests to myself but now? Now I embrace the cringe I guess.
I'm napo. I'm from Argentina
. Like mimi, I found this blog through Linkard's video (hi!). I had also watched and enjoyed Anthony's channel for a while (hi also! Thanks for this space)
Interests, in no particular order and with different levels of expertise (mostly amateur-hobbyist): making music, synthesizers, electronics, programming, general DIY, self growth and therapy, photography, editing, reading. Learning about random things, how they work, what their history is.
I tend to hop from interest to interest but those are my main ones. Until now, I've been a silent consumer of any content related to these but I've been thinking of starting a personal website and finally have a space for them.
So yea. How yall doing?

When did all the windmills start to turn so slow?

Re: Introduce yourself!
hello everybody, i'm your local postwoman for the pingas postal service. i deliver lotsa spaghetti!
i'm 22yo, interests include old video games (around NES up to and including PS2/WII era,) emulating them, older minecraft versions, and i'm interested in computer science and programming but have yet to get an education on it. i also think youtube poops from 2009 are still hilarious, and that's because they are.
as much as i like to socialize, modern social media unsettles me to the point where i'd rather not socialize online at all than use those platforms. hopefully the indie web will be the substitution i've been waiting for!!
open to private messaging if that's anyone's gig!
