Hello everyone ! I have a lot of game keys from Humble Bundle, and have always wanted to give them out. These are mostly game keys, but there is also some software in there.

Now this forum offers me the perfect opportunity to do so !

The rules are simple. I give you a prompt, you answer in this thread, and gain an entry into the giveaway.

The goal of this giveaway is to give the opportunity to spread some love, but also to share stories and personal opinions ! This will be reflected in the prompts. I want to avoid FOMO, so suggestions are welcome.

Today's Prompt
What is one of your favorite games ? Why is it one of your favorite games ?
(If you don't play video games, that's okay! Choose your favorite "thing" from any other medium).

I want to know why you personally love this game. See this video for reference : https://youtube.com/shorts/fF3ORSjpWr8

Your answer must contain (at minimum) :
  • The game
  • The reason (be as brief or as long as you want)
  • The game that you want if you win from the list below
Post a reply before Sunday September 1rst 11:59 PM EST to enter

Here is my answer :
In the MMORPG genre, my favorite game is probably Rift, with Fiesta Online at a close second.
Are they perfect games? No. They're not even good now, I don't recommend ANYONE to play them.
However, Fiesta Online was (one of) my first real entry into the MMORPG world, and gave me moments that I remember to this day. I played it on my first laptop (which didn't even have a graphics card), and absolutely loved it. I played a paladin, and was always more focused on social interactions and playing with and healing people than I was getting to max level or something.

Same with Rift. That is the first MMORPG where I put a LOT of hours into it (over 800). I lost a lot of sleep in this period of my life, and was intensely sleep deprived (it was middle/high school, so very not fun). However, I had a guild, and loved throwing random events to play with people. If you don't know, in this game, "rifts" can open "anywhere" in the world. This means that you might start the game, and you have a "rift" invasion in the map, with monsters everywhere. If you "close" enough rifts, then a world boss appears, with rewards for everyone if you defeat it (including mounts, it was really cool). This meant that I NEVER did what I originally wanted to do in this game. Launched the game to finish a quest I was supposed to get done? Well, a rift killed the quest giver. Now it's 2 hours in, I've done 2 invasions, closed 7 rifts, done other random quests, and finally realized I didn't do the one that I wanted to get done.

I also loved doing random roleplay and social experiments. I even have a character that I overleveled in the tutorial area and never teleported to the actual game. I also never hit max level on any character.

This is also where I'd put what game I want from the list.

Answer the prompt, gain an entry in the giveaway ! It's that easy.

Thanks for doing this, Linkard!

A Favorite Game: Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge. It's a LucasArts point-and-click adventure game that came out in 1991.

Why It's A Favorite: I'll admit a big part of it is nostalgia. My older brother and I played this when we were still fairly young, and had a lot of fun figuring things out together and occasionally explaining jokes that the other didn't get (mostly my brother helping me). Beyond that though:
- The art style was amazing then and is still beautiful now. (I'll stick to the original graphics over the remasters, but the remasters are nice too).
- The music was fantastic and had this great system in some areas where it would not only change depending on which room you were in, but little musical bridges at any point in the music would transition into the other song. It's still a marvel even by today's standards, being more than just a simple fade from song A to song B.
- It was a piratey theme and heavily influenced by the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland, which has always been my favorite ride and inspired a lot of the products of my own imagination.
- The sense of humor was great. Being able to pick your dialogue in conversations was a lot of fun, seeing what reactions you'd get for different choices even if it was usually minor.
- Insult Swordfighting, where you don't control the actual sword swinging or moves or anything like that, but need to respond to insults with the correct counter-insult. It was a clever way to have pirate swordfighting in the game and determine the outcome via the dialogue system. Plus the insults and counters are pretty funny. I love whenever I see "How appropriate. You fight like a cow." somewhere out in the wild.
- I don't know man, it just had a vibe that perfectly resonated with me and keeps it living in my head as a favorite to this day. It had its flaws, but it was beautiful and an experience that has stuck with me through all my considerable years.
- Monkey Island 1 was my introduction to the series and also a favorite, but MI2 seemed to just improve on every single aspect of its predecessor.

The Game I Want: One Step From Eden. Looks like a lot of fun!

I haven't played the games you mentioned (I was a WoW normie), but Rift sounds really neat.
