I Love minidisc!

Post by VashtheIntellect »

For those who don't know, Minidisc is a Magneto-optical disc technology made by Sony in the later era of the format wars, and one of the only non-CD survivors. Minidisc production officially ended in 2013 unfortunately but there's enough in circulation for everyone!

In pop culture, the minidisc is probably most well known from ~~Kanye's~~ Yahndi album cover art. But as far as art goes, I hope the Angel Project becomes more well known.

Minidiscs hold CD quality audio on a smaller, protected disc, and can be played on smaller players. Mine fit in my pocket!74-80mins with default recording settings but can be quadrupled with compressed recording modes, theoretically, one can save 5 hours of music on a single disc, but I like having multiple for the tactility and just because they look neat. It's by far my favorite way to listen to my own music collection!

Oh nice! I didn't even know about this format!
You mentioned they haven't been officially in production since 2013. Are there people who make/rewrite their own?

The vast majority of discs in circulation are read-write discs, so I'd say that most discs are one's written by individuals! Honestly the read-only discs are so stupid rare I might never collect one. There's a Jamiroquai album thats like $300 on discogs
