Hi! I've really had these two games on my mind a lot recently, but whenever I ask around about folks' opinions on the different galaxies and which ones are their favorites, I always get different results. This game has such a massive variety of different locations, and a lot of them are really, really good and memorable. Even with their flaws, these two games are really special and unique, even to this day. There really is a lot to talk about regarding them.
I want to know, for those who've played the game, which galaxies are your favorite? What do you like about them? Do you have a galaxy that's your favorite in terms of its overall gameplay, but a different favorite that you think is aesthetically much more unique or pleasing? Got a favorite between the amazing cast of bosses? Tell me something you love! I want to hear the opinions of other people! Give me your pure unfiltered thoughts and reasoning!

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2
I'll start: I absolutely love Melty Monster Galaxy, even if I only love the first star. I think that first star of the galaxy, The Magnificent Magma Sea, is my favorite lava level across Super Mario HISTORY. I love the volcano levels in NSMBDS and NSMBWii, don't get me wrong, but COME ON. Aesthetically AND gameplay-wise it's still my favorite star. I remember it vividly. Something about its music just gives it this atmosphere of beauty and power, and it compliments the spanning ocean of lava and hulking beasts so excellently. Unforgettable. Top tier galaxy.
Also my favorite boss is Kingfin. Because fish. I like fish.

In Galaxy 1 specifically I absolutely love the atmosphere in Space Junk, it's just so soothing and space-y. I'd say it's probably the first thing that comes to mind when I think about this game. In terms of gameplay/artistic direction Buoy Base is also hard to beat, you can tell the developers put lots of effort into it. I haven't played Galaxy 2 since I was a kid so I wouldn't say I have a favorite but the game itself feels very nostalgic to me.
It's funny how I was recently watching jan misali's video about the Super Mario series before I came across this thread, you might be interested in that if you haven't seen it already.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2
I just replayed Mario Galaxy one a couple months ago! I could never beat it when I was a kid because there was a scratch on the disc I had that made the game crash during the final cutscene after you beat Bowser. But this time I 100%'ed it (not to brag) and I'm planning on doing a Luigi run!
I remember liking the detail of how the game cycled through all the seasons of the honeyhive galaxy, revisiting it across multiple levels. But my favorite galaxies were the ones that were on the beach, like the Beach Bowl Galaxy and the Deep Dark Galaxy. I guess I liked the variety of environments and the chill beach vibes.
I haven't played Super Mario Galaxy 2 yet, but I just picked up a copy at a yard sale! I'm excited to get into that once I'm back in the Galaxy mood.
