Talk about Linux, macOS, Windows, maybe TempleOS?

Radial menus on desktop

Post by PossiblyAxolotl »

I saw some people in a Discord server the other day talking about radial menus but they all had something in common: they're paid and exclusive to MacOS. That's kinda a thing I've noticed, when there's a seemingly hyper-specific simplistic piece of software 9 times out of 10 it's a paid Mac exclusive app. Because of that I decided to look into something on my own and discovered Kando, an open source radial menu for MacOS, Windows, and Linux. I've been trying it out and I've found it to be really nice so far, so I was wondering what you all thought about it? Have you ever tried something like it, or any other weird computer navigation stuff? https://kando.menu/

that doesn't make sense. Who wrote that?

I am personally a WM user. Radial Menus dont seem that efficient for my circumstances. As I try to reduce the reliance on the Mouse and try to do what I can, and reasonably should, on the keyboard. But I might take a look if there is anyway to integrate it in my Workflow.

My Prefered Computer Navigation is Key binds. I am able to open almost all thing via the Keyboard. That control, once I got the hang of it, is quite enjoyable.

Seen a couple videos using Kando in the past, but didn't know what it was at the time...
Looks like a fun way to use your computer, I'll give it that! Might give it a try someday :geek:

I was just learning about radial menus/fitts's law in my college class- this tool is really interesting! I don't know if I have a personal use for it but it does make me happy.

That looks pretty cool, but I'm so used to my keyboard shortcuts and mouse navigation mix that I don't think I could give this a fair shot, I could also see this be great for using with a game controller/joystick or maybe even in VR/XR, and that "Be Fast" demo on their website is impressive for the people that are willing to spend the time to configure and learn how to use it.

ooooh that's a good point! I can imagine pairing that kind of navigation with SteamOS would be really good for navigating a Nintendo Switch-like setup at home with the Deck/similar consoles...
