News Board?
Do you want a news board? Vote and leave your thoughts! I understand it can get heated easily, but I also know some folks like the discussions and to keep up with the latest things.
Re: News Board?
I'm undecided here—what would be the focus of a news board? Would there be limitations (self-imposed or otherwise) as to what's fit for a RC news board? If the hope is to share news we see and encourage conversation, well then that seems solid—though I'm a little leery of purely another avenue to encounter current events

That's how I feel too. I could see one leading to the other easily, but I'm also famously paranoid, which is why I wanted to open it up to discussion. I agree that it might be good to share good news, or relevant news to other conversations, but even "good" news could be "bad" news to others if it's politics related. I don't want to discourage people from not contributing to other conversations because they saw an opposing political view somewhere else, you know? (I'm talking about reasonable political discourse, extreme discussions wouldn't be tolerated)kamp wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2024 8:43 pm I'm undecided here—what would be the focus of a news board? I am torn on this, it can go either well or bad. Politics is a big issue for something so young. If included, @rejectconvenience is going to have to enter the politics game in order to properly moderate this forum, I feel.
Re: News Board?
Lots of good points, but I also think that there could be a lot of things to talk about when it comes to news and politics !
First, I'm for the creation of a "news" thread, not "politics". But a "news" thread would inevitably involve politics.
Whether that's things like right to repair, Europe passing legislation to limit google and apple, or things like the latest news with Google losing their anti-trust case.
Then there's politics in the "election" and "party" sense, but in the world we live in, technology being omnipresent, companies buying and selling data about us and politicians passing legislation are basically two faces of the same coin.
What I mean is "politics" simply means "who" has power, and what is considered normal, for example. In this sense, it can be interesting to have a place to discuss politics in political terms, to avoid it seeping in other threads in an uncontrolled manner. Technology needs to be regulated, and that's a matter of politics. And obviously there would need to be rules and it probably would need to be moderated. But ultimately, it's @rejectconvenience's forum, and if he doesn't want a "news" thread, I don't think he should create it, regardless of what we think.

I think tech news could work. I will put that in the tech zone, and I'll additionally make another board for good news in general. I'm going to say we should avoid classic decisive politics, so I'll bake those into the rules.
