Re: What if you can't reject convenience?
Great video! Just one thing: you probably shouldn't recommend Firefox on Android, since it has several security holes and is way behind Chromium browsers on Android. Its many issues have remained unaddressed for years at this point. Brave on Android is a much better recommendation.

@Lasso3049 I have been using Firefox Android for years now with no Issues, primarily for the Benefit of extensions. While I didn't keep tabs on Firefox for Android, I haven't heard about Security Issues except the off mention. Could you elaborate as I am curious about that?
I personally Dislike and distrust Brave because they're Crypto stuff and CEO and I like to support Firefox/Gecko so that there isn't a Browser Monopoly for Chromium/Blink. Also, not Open Source.

Re: What if you can't reject convenience?
There's a great thread on the Privacy Guides forum on this that explains it far better than I can: https://discuss.privacyguides.net/t/rev ... lear/17840. Because of these issues and possibly more, they currently don't recommend any Firefox-based browsers on Android despite recommending three Firefox-based browsers on desktop.Crazyroostereye wrote: Fri Feb 21, 2025 2:46 pm @Lasso3049 I have been using Firefox Android for years now with no Issues, primarily for the Benefit of extensions. If you wanna avoid Brave because of its leadership and want to use Firefox on Android despite its issues, as long as you're aware of the issues I respect that. I just thought it was important to mention this to RC since he just recommended Firefox on Android to thousands of people who most likely aren't aware of these issues.
I happen to use Firefox on my computer myself, but because of the current state of Firefox on Android, I can't really in good conscience use it over alternatives like Brave, Cromite, or Vanadium on GrapheneOS that don't compromise on security in the same way.
By the way, could you give me more information regarding your claim about Brave not being open source? As far as I understand it is, and I can't find anything that suggest it's not. Its source code is up on GitHub under the Mozilla Public License 2.0.

Re: What if you can't reject convenience?
Would Firefox Focus be a better suggestion? That seems to be designed to specifically be more secure, but I might need some help in the research on that.
Re: What if you can't reject convenience?
The main issues lie with the engine that Firefox on Android uses (Gecko), and Firefox Focus uses it too. For now, I would instead recommend Brave or Cromite (fork of the discontinued Bromite browser)—which Privacy Guides recommend—or Vanadium if you're on GrapheneOS.rejectconvenience wrote: Fri Feb 21, 2025 3:43 pm Would Firefox Focus be a better suggestion? I do want to clarify that I'm not an expert on this subject; I'm simply sharing information I've gathered through my research.

Re: What if you can't reject convenience?
I'll spend some time this weekend researching that, and I'll add a pinned comment if my finding align with what you're concerned about
I agree with ya, I don't want to put people into a high risk situation, but I also want to make sure I'm giving reasonable advice, you know? Thanks for the tip!!

Re: What if you can't reject convenience?
i need a lot of programs like discord and gmail because what my friends only use these because off distance and it taking too long (like having to find the new account or profile is too inconvenient)
Re: What if you can't reject convenience?
In many cases, it's possible to find an alright compromise that results in better privacy without adding too much inconvenience. In the case of Discord, I use it myself as a PWA (Progressive Web App) together with some filters to block some of Discord's tracking, courtesy of Trafotin through his YouTube video Make Discord Less Evil Using PWAs and Custom Filter Rules.sunnyday wrote: Sat Feb 22, 2025 12:11 pm i need a lot of programs like discord and gmail because what my friends only use these because off distance and it taking too long (like having to find the new account or profile is too inconvenient)
Even if you feel like you can't drop these things, there are often plenty of things you can do to make it less bad. You can start by going through the settings of the services you use and opting out of different tracking options in the privacy sections, and transitioning over to using different services in your browser instead of their app. On both phones and on computers (in Chrome, Edge, Brave and other Chromium based browsers, unfortunately not Firefox at this point in time), you're able to save websites as an app and use them in more or less the same way as using the official app, but with better privacy and security.
Don't feel like you have to go all the way or do everything all at once, just take one step at a time and think through what you feel comfortable with and don't. Recognizing what you need to use regardless of how you feel about them is a great first step! A good next step I think is exploring ways to continue to use them while improving your privacy in non-inconvenient ways, doing things like what I described in my previous paragraph.
