James Lee is a YouTube Animation Channel, who you might have seen around. His Art Style is quite distinct.
Today he made a Video about his Adobe Breakup, in which he shows of what he has been using as an alternative in his last Videos over the Adobe Suite. And in the end he reveals that he has been using Linux too. Which I find quite interesting as one thing Linux has struggled in is the Creative Space, primarily because of the lack of Adobe Software. And him showing of the different Applications he uses successfully that also run on Linux, proves that even this space is getting good enough for Artists to also be able to switch with enough time and effort. Which might make the Switch just that bit more Attractive and feasible for people.
Making the rise of the Fabled year of the Linux desktop just a bit closer.

Re: James Lee switch to Linux
He made that video on the exact weekend I finally switched to Linux (Ubuntu) on my main machine.
Windows decided to, out of the blue, not give me access to the internet (the "no internet, secured" error). It was just the straw that broke the camel's back.
The great thing is that he uses DaVinci Resolve like me, so I have hopes of making it work. Just in case, I'll learn some basic editing on Blender, and I decided to dual-boot (because I'm certain I'll need it).

Re: James Lee switch to Linux
Yeah, DaVinci Resolve is quite a headache, the best way I have seen people getting it running is using a RHEL-based Ditrobox, e.g. Rocky, RHEL or Alama. But my knowledge might be a bit outdated. Also, as far as I can remember is that the Free Version doesn't work on Linux at all, some Codec issues.
The Dual booting with Windows is always recommended at the Start. Especially for the Migration from Software and Workflows.
But I wish you the best of Luck in migrating over.

It was awesome to see. When I watched the video I was happy just to hear someone breakout out of Adobe's trap, but hearing that the lessons learned sunk into his heart and he applied it to other areas of his life like with his operating system is great. Everything he said is true. The forces that are making other things worse remain. The fact that we are being pushed toward an objectively more positive option that brings freedom to individuals and communities is one of the bright spots in the world right now. People are cashing in on the open source promise and the check isn't bouncing!

Re: James Lee switch to Linux
This was the video that finally pushed me to switch to Linux; I’d seen DankPods talk about Linux before and I’d also seen lots of Linux stuff from Bringus Studios (both great fun channels, love their stuff), but James’ way of promoting it and getting away from Adobe was the final nail in the coffin for my relationship with Windows. I felt like I was kind of doomed to stay with Windows forever, to just Deal
with 11 eventually by default (and I still think that might happen eventually for the sake of system security but idk), and had been idly thinking about Linux, but once I saw that it wasn’t that difficult in James’ video, I thought “nah screw it, I’m done too!”
And here I am two months later about to make the jump myself

Same lol, I was probably gonna use some sort of linux once I build a proper PC but it convinced me to install Linux on my laptop which has been really good so far and I've been using it for a few months now :>QueriesNTheories wrote: Sun Mar 02, 2025 12:41 pm This was the video that finally pushed me to switch to Linux
